The offer

Total minutes means start to finish: shopping, the drive out, and the drive back.

The miles

The drive back fills in to match the drive out until you change it.

Defaults: the U.S. average for regular gas the week of September 21, 2026 (EIA) and the IRS business rate for July 1 to December 31, 2026. Your car and gas price are remembered on this device.

What the numbers mean

After gas is the cash that leaves your wallet this week. Shipt doesn't reimburse fuel, so what gas costs per order comes straight out of the offer.

After full car cost uses the IRS standard mileage rate, which rolls gas, tires, brakes, oil, insurance and depreciation into one per-mile number. It's an average, not a bill for your particular car. It's also the number that tells you whether an order paid anything once the car is counted, because the wear shows up months later, all at once.

After self-employment tax sets aside 14.13% of the order's profit after the mileage deduction. That's the 15.3% self-employment tax applied to 92.35% of net earnings. Income tax isn't in there, because it depends on your whole year, not one order.

Count the drive back. Shipt pays for the order, not for getting back to where the next one starts, and a 9 mile delivery is an 18 mile trip on your car. That unpaid return is most of why a $23 an hour Saturday can clear closer to $11.

The minutes should be your real minutes, store and both drives. Shipt's $16 an hour earnings standard is measured against its own time estimate for the order, and how that estimate gets made isn't published.

Using it on a real offer

You won't have time to type all this with an offer on the screen. Run your usual orders through it once, at home: the close store with the small baskets, the far zone with the big ones, the no-tip order you keep being tempted by. The pattern sticks. After a few you'll know roughly where your line is, and whether a no-tip order clears it stops being a guess.

Every mile in that math is deductible too, but only if it's logged. What a mileage log needs to hold up is simpler than most shoppers think.

Quick answers

Why count the drive back to the store? Shipt pays for the order, not for getting back to where the next order starts. The return drive costs the same gas and wear as the drive out.

What mileage rate does it use? The IRS business rate, 76 cents a mile from July 1 through December 31, 2026. You can change it.

How is the tax set-aside figured? 14.13% of the order's pay minus its mileage deduction. That covers self-employment tax only, not income tax.

Does Shipt pay for gas? No. Shipt's card FAQ says it doesn't reimburse gas, parking fees, parking tickets or tolls.

For the dates that go with all of this, see the Shipt shopper tax calendar.

Auto Tip Map is an Android app for Shipt shoppers that does this math on every order automatically, logging the miles, the pay, the tip and an estimated fuel cost, so you can see your real hourly without typing anything.
